Several Győr-related artists won prestigeous prizes at the 40th Hungarian Film Week.

First we mention the actor of the National Theatre of Győr, István Szilágyi, who received the Life Achievement Award. He acted in Zoltán Huszárik's Szinbád as well but this is history now. The presence is for the young people!

The Best Actress Award went to Júlia Ubrankovics for a role in Péter Bacsó's Almost Virgin who studied in Győr and worked at the MEDIAWAVE Festival.

Vidamon Tóth Máté won the Best Cinematographer Award for his work in the sci-fi '1'.

Finally but not at last we would like to mention Éva Zabezsinszkij, the dramaturg of the Grand Prix winner film, Last Times, who has just won the prize of Filmfund Győr's application with her screenplay.

'On the anniversary of the Film Week, a new-wave generation came up', said Jenő Hartyándi, who, as later admitted, was highly impressed by his jury-mate, the Oscar-winner cinematographer, Vilmos Zsigmond.

The feature film jury of the 40th Hungarian Film Week had been watching 18 films in a few days. The member from Győr of the prestigious jury told our paper that they worked in a very intense tempo: they sat into the projection room at ten in the morning and after a short lunch break, they finished watching the films around half past ten..

The Filmfund Győr announced the award-winners of its first synopsis, short film and screenplay application at the press conference of the 40th Hungarian Film Week.

From among the 23 feature film plan, the jury awarded Péter Szalay's screenplay titled Border-Line Case. The film focuses on the GDR and FRG events when the borders in Sopron were opened. The director has done thorough pre-work in the related topic.

Mihály Buzás received Honourable Mention for the treatment 'Stary Sky' which, in satiric form, examines the secret moon landing plans of a little village.

Dr. Rudolf Ottófi, the vice mayor handed the prizes and held a speech for the press representatives.

The first Hungarian regional Filmfund was established in Győr in 2008. The starting was supported by the Government of the City of Győr which ensures the financial background from its yearly budget in the future.

There are over one hundred film funds in Europe which will support the regional international film production. In Hungary, the Filmfund Győr is the first initiation which is not a commercial enterprise but a public coordinating team - said György Durst, the president of the MEDIAWAVE Foundation, in his opening speech.

The Filmfund Győr will open its archive in March: the collection of 20 thousand video tapes will serve research and educational purposes. 'The further aims of the Filmfund Győr include the development of regional film production and the organisation of different film events', said Jenő Hartyándi, the director of the MEDIAWAVE Festival at the press conference of the 40th Hungarian Film Week in Budapest.

István Szilágy received the Life Achievement Award of the Hungarian Film Week accompanied by the appretiation of the professionals and the audience. Many people say that he has long deserved it as we have seen his characteristic face in more than 150 Hungarian films and the audience remembers his roles even if they were smaller ones.

Győr-Budapest - Jenő Hartyándi was invited to the jury of the 40th Hungarian Film Week. The well-known director and cinematographer from Győr thinks that the honour was due to the MEDIAWAVE and the freshly established regional film fund, in other words to the 'rural' film profession.

The Fim Week will start on the 27th of January in Budapest where 334 films were submitted. Jenő Hartyándi was invited to the feature film jury (he previously took part in the preview selection) who, together with the director Márta Mészáros, the cinematographers Elemér Ragály and Vilmos Zsigmond and the writer and director, Ferenc Tolvaly, will decide about the selected films.
 

At the end of January, two film crews will come to Győr to visit the places and make a casting in Győr. In the next PASSPORT CONTROL International Film Workshop organised by the MEDIAWAVE, young but well-trained film makers will start to shoot short fictions in different places of Győr.

"Tom Hanks's praise is an impayable advertisement because the film professionals were present who will make films and furthermore almost 50 million people watched this event. That's why I keep my fingers crossed for MEDIAWAVE and the city of Győr that they could connect to the national film production. Film is a messenger and we should make use of it."

The Filmfund Győr will be introduced to the professional audience of the 40th Hungarian Film Week at 12:00 on Sunday, 1 February, 2009 in the Palace MOM Part Cinema. After short screenings, in the press conference, the organisers will show their plans for the future and what they have done in the last few months.
