Győr-Cannes - This year as an observer, next year as a full member the MEDIAWAVE can participate in the work of the organisation coordinating the European regional filmfunds. Orsolya Csete, festival coordinator, had a talk in the topic in Cannes the other day.
There were not only screenings but also professional discussions at the Cannes Film Festival. Orsolya Csete, with support of the Motion Picture Foundation of Hungary, was invited to participate at the negotiations about the establishments of film funds. The festival coordinator of the MEDIAWAVE represented the West Hungarian region.
'Talking about the antecedents, last year we participated at a Euroregional meeting and this year we invited Charlotte Appelgren, the general secretary of the Cineregio, to the MEDIAWAVE Festival, with whom we have talked about the earliest establishment of the regional filmfund of Győr', said Orsolya Csete to our paper.
The festival coordinator told us that the regional film fund would be established in cooperation with the goverment of Győr and with the support of the Hungarian Motion Picture Foundation.
'The regional principle necessitates to cease the captial-centered thinking in film production. The filmfund would distribute the EU supports via applications which the film makers would use locally. We have everything for the successful realisation: our well-working international contact network, out rich short and documentary film archive made up of 13.000 films. The Passport Control film workshop has been a fruitful initiation of the MEDIAWAVE Foundation for years. Due to its participants, last year 17 short fiction films were born. They are young film makers thus the planned filmfund would ensure the support of the future film maker generation'.
