THE RURAL CITIES SHOULD ALSO BE GIVEN AN IMPORTANT CULTURAL ROLE

The first Hungarian regional Filmfund was established in Győr in 2008. The starting was supported by the Government of the City of Győr which ensures the financial background from its yearly budget in the future.

There are over one hundred film funds in Europe which will support the regional international film production. In Hungary, the Filmfund Győr is the first initiation which is not a commercial enterprise but a public coordinating team - said György Durst, the president of the MEDIAWAVE Foundation, in his opening speech.

 

Jenő Hartyándi, the director of the MEDIAWAVE laid the four keystones of the organisation which are the preparation of film production, the film archive, the education programmes and the organisation of related film events. Hartyándi also said that the Government of the City of Győr together with the Filmfund Győr plan to establish the audio visual film archive and to give it a wider publicity for the year 2009. This collection will primarily include the visual memories of the history of Győr.

Dr. Rudolf Ottófi, the vice mayor of Győr, expressed his hope in the finacial security of the Filmfund that in spite of the economic crisis the stable financial situation of the city can be maintained. According to the vice mayor, the Filmfund is a good opportunity to reform the capital-centered attitude in thinking and with its help the rural cities can be given an important cultural role. György Durst was talking about the film plan and sreenplay application of the Filmfund Győr which was to survey the film writer talents of the region. From among the submitted 81 works the jury awarded Magdolna Tímár's documentary- short fiction film plan, 'Above Water, Under Water'. In short fiction film chategory, Orsolya Nagypál's 'Shampoo' and Éva Zabezsinszkij's 'Film' were awarded. The president of the curatory announced the winners of the feature film chategory at the press conference of the Hungarian Film Week: Mihály Buzás's 'Stary Sky' and Péter Szalay's 'Border-Line Case' were awarded.
