The Hungarian Forint
(shortly Ft., international: HUF) is the official currency of Hungary. From 26th of February 2008. it is flotating in a flexible quotation system.
The forint remains after Hungary joined the European Union but it will not for long. The date of the withdrawal is uncertain yet. Last publication is saying the forint will remain the
hungarian currency until 2012. After joining the European Economical and Monetary Union the national banknotes and coins will be changed to Euro, and the currency bank accounts converted to euro accounts as well.
At 1st March of 2oo8. the one and two forints coins were withdrawn, as their expenses for the bank of issue reached milliards of forints through the years. The prices not ending in 0 or 5 must be rounded.
The prices between 0.001 and 2.49 HUF must be rounded to 0, the prices higher than 2.5 to 5. The cash registers and the softwers are not prepaired for the rounding, as their changing would have costed 25 milliard forint. Instead the sum must be done in head and the bills contain the exact sum.
The golden forint was widely known in the Middle-Ages ( in other languages florin or gulden) and it had been used through history in many countries.
